August 9, 2012 Meeting Minutes

24 members and no guests were present.

Treasurer’s report: $2119.88 balance.  The bill for the pen kits (for the troops) is due to be paid soon.

Library report: Nothing new.

Old business

  • Twin City Days:  The club demo did not make it into the booklet that was just published, but still have a chance to get in the paper. Jim did confirm that we can demonstrate at the library. Craig, Gary, and Tim have fold-up tables to bring.
  • Craig has not yet spoken to the jefferson county art guild. Gary let everyone know that the Jefferson County Art Guild has an art show coming up and you can enter items on Saturday, Aug 11.
  • Craig has the pen kits for the people who signed up to make pens for the troops.
  • Carrie reported on AV prices.  Joe will check into a lead on a projector.
  • For the Birdhouse project, Craig recommended looking at Marymount Manor in Eureka or Presidential Care Center in Pacific or Arnold.

    New business

  • Gary brought some wood to give away as door prizes.
  • Fall Turning Day:  October 20 at Paul Krautmann’s farm. 
    • Tentative plans to have a Bowl Turning station, pen turning, and birdhouse turning, sessions on buffing, coring system, freehand sharpening.
  • Mike Short has been contacted about an estate with many flatworking tools. He will send out price information and photos via email.
  • Someone emailed the club about making a custom sign (sounds like routed, not turned).  See Carrie if you want contact information.
  • Craig just got back from Turn On Chicago and will plan to do some demos on things he learned.
  • Safety note:  CA Glue Acellerator has been associated with heart palpitations.

July 12, 2012 Meeting Minutes

6 guests and 30 members were present.

Treasurer’s report: $2300.78 balance.  Pat is switching the club from BoA to a credit union in order to avoid a monthly service fee.

Library report: Terry let the new members know about the library benefits.

Old business

  • Craig has not yet spoken to the jefferson county art guild
  • Twin City Days Sept 8, 8-4pm: Question as to whether we’d have a lot of people there to buy bowls.  A better idea might be to have the sales up with the demonstrations.  Motion to sell things at the library location. Motion carries.  Jim will check into the food pantry options.  Bring bowls and other donations to the August meeting.
  • Jim and Terry have plenty of birdhouse birds for this year.
  • Carrie will look into the AV equipment prices
  • Carrie will add the benefits of membership on the website (insurance + club lathe)
  • Carrie won “Best in Wood” at the Craft Alliance Emerging Artist show.  Go see the show through August 11.

New Business

  • Craig is taking donations of turned pens for the troops.  He will take them to turn on chicago. There is a motion for the club to turn pens and donate to the troops.  Craig will order pen kits for the members to use if they will turn and donate them.  The motion carried.
  • Roger is selling honey.
  • Craig has a lot of well-aged walnut if you want to buy some.
  • Terry will coordinate the birdhouse project this year.  Looking for ideas of homes to talk to.
