Show Me Woodturners, Festus, MO

Show Me Woodturners was formed and became a chapter of the American Association Of Woodturners (AAW) in 2005 and has continued to grow ever since.

The mission of our club and its members is twofold. First and foremost is teaching safety in wood turning. Second is the mission of education. Teaching newcomers, young and not-so-young, is the cornerstone of our mission.

We hold our monthly meetings the second Thursday of each month at the Festus Band Building from 6:30 to 9pm.

Meetings consist of club business, show and tell for members to exhibit their latest projects, a demonstration of turning techniques and a Presidents challenge. We have two turning days a year for a full day of teaching, turning and friendship. We also offer a mentor program for one on one turning teaching.

We have a library of more than 20 books and over 90 dvd’s that members can check out and return at the next meeting for no charge. The club also has a midi lathe and tools that is available for members to check out for a month at a time. We also have club caps and shirts available to purchase.

Membership dues are $30 per year for an individual, $40 per year for a family and are renewed every April. Memberships are free for school wood shop teachers and students 18 and under.

We are a great civic minded club and are very active in the community. We have an ongoing program of club members turning bird house ornaments that we donate to local area schools and retirement homes. Our members have also built display cabinets for a local school and the new library in Festus, Mo. Throughout the year we do turning demonstrations at numerous locations.

Our members display their work on a rotating schedule in local libraries during the fall.

The Show Me Woodturners has a great mix of members, men and women, young and older. Even if you don’t have a lathe, but are interested in turning, please come and join us.

For more information on our club please contact us via the form on the right-hand side of this page. We always enjoy meeting new guests at our monthly meetings. Come join us.
